About The Occasion
The Occasion was built by guys who have a true love for music. Music is integrated into our daily lives and we want to use our knowledge to help others experience music like we do. It's hard to find the perfect playlist and that's why we created The Occasion.
Our goal is to highlight special playlists that we think you'll love and hopefully you can find playlists that are perfect for you to listen to during any given time of your day.
So who are we exactly?
Jesse Greenhouse
Jesse was born in Vancouver, BC but grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His dad plays in a band which meant he was around music all the time as a kid. He learned piano for five years before perfecting the saxophone by age 12. Naturally, this lead to his passion in jazz music, on top of hip-hop and R&B. Now in University, Jesse spends his free time making super extra Spotify playlists to post on his Instagram. When he's not making Spotify playlists, you can catch him in the booth as a DJ in Ale House. Feel free to check out his Spotify profile.
Edward Chen
From Mississauga, Edward grew up in a musical family. With three older sisters, each sibling played an instrument at a young age - the piano, vocals, and violin, while he played the guitar at the age of 7. He began learning classical guitar through music lessons before exploring other methods of playing such as strumming and fingerpicking. At the age of 12, he started playing the baritone in various bands at school. Soon after, he slowly developed a liking for the hip-hop and R&B scene (and a guilty pleasure for top 40s). Asides from making and curating his Spotify playlists, he has recently picked up music production and is starting to make hip-hop beats.
Delwin Lam
Delwin is from Vaughan, ON and is currently a 3rd year commerce student at Queen’s. From learning the piano as a kid to playing the trumpet in middle school and the Tuba in high school, music has been a major influence all his life. He's had the opportunity to have been taught by two amazing music teachers in the past and even had the chance to travel to Europe with his high school band and perform in Italy, Austria, and Spain. From these experiences, music has become something that he could never live without. Although he keeps a soft spot for classical music, he pretty much listens to strictly hip-hop and R&B now.
